Hotel de Baak Seaside offers a platform for inspiring exhibitions of contemporary artists. In collaboration with the artist, we seek a unifying theme that brings together the artworks, our location, and the learning processes that take place here. Currently, the exhibition 'Capas-Lagen' by artist Amerentske Koopman is on display with us.
In her work, Amerentske Koopman explores how the world can be captured in compositions of lines, structures, and planes. Her paintings go beyond just paint: she enriches her canvases with colored fabrics and objects, creating layered images reminiscent of landscapes and urban structures.
Her working method is characterized by a continuous movement between painting, collecting, and constructing. Materials play an important role in this: found objects, leftover materials, gifts, and small 'things' are given a new life within her work. This way of working forms the basis for her so-called Druktemakers.
The Druktemakers are objects that arise from thought processes that continue to develop, both inside and outside the maker's mind. They emerge from a process of collecting, organizing, and repurposing. Through this continuous transformation, everyday materials gain new meaning and become part of a larger whole.
In her work, color, movement, and repetition are central. Planes, transparency, relief, and lines determine the compositions, which are simultaneously energetic and carefully ordered. The work seems to be able to expand endlessly, while a strong underlying structure ensures cohesion.
"One moment I'm painting, the next I'm designing or building a Druktemaker. One thing leads to another, and in a way, I devour myself through all the ideas. Painting is my starting point, and from there I make excursions."
With her work, Amerentske Koopman invites the viewer to look differently: to discover connections, experience movement, and give space to imagination. Her compositions show that there is always more to see than meets the eye at first glance.
