Landgoed de Horst provides a stage for inspiring exhibitions by contemporary artists. In collaboration with the artist, we look for a connecting theme that brings together the artworks, our location, and the learning processes that take place here.
The work of Sander Bos is currently on display with us. In his art, he explores how we give meaning to the world around us. His work moves at the intersection of imagination, psychology, and meaning-making, and invites viewers to look beyond what is immediately visible.
Sander describes himself as a human seismograph who maps his inner chaos. From that idea, he creates digital sets in which he explores his mental landscape. These fictional spaces are reminiscent of theater sets: carefully constructed with light, perspective, floors, and walls, making them feel recognizable and accessible. At the same time, they contain elements that cannot be immediately explained and therefore continue to intrigue.
The objects he places in these worlds are often recognizable, but their context gives them an alienating effect. In the translation from digital image to drawing, an additional layer then emerges. The work becomes tangible, personal, and visibly bears the hand of the maker.
In a time when we want to understand, name, and categorize a great deal, Sander instead chooses to make room for the intangible. His work is not so much about finding answers, but about daring to dwell in the questions. It invites viewers to look, experience, and discover meaning in a way that can be different for everyone.
From that search, he develops a visual language that makes something tangible of the undercurrent that shapes us: the mental constructs, thoughts, and emotions that lie beneath the surface. According to him, it is precisely in that vulnerability that a special beauty resides.
The exhibition can currently be viewed in the Banning building. More information about the artist and his work can be found at www.sander-bos.nl. All artworks from the exhibition are for sale. Information about prices is available at the artworks themselves or through our Front Office.
