Who is looking at whom?

New exhibition by Louise Hessel

Who is looking at whom? That is the question Louise Hessel poses in her new exhibition. From within the delicate lace-like floral forest on the wall, the viewer is intensely stared at by piercing eyes. Right beside it, a colourful floral cluster made up of angles and layers. And a little further on, a vase full of holes. The exhibition on the walls of the Banning building consists of works from several of Hessel’s collections, yet together they prompt reflection. An invitation to look inward. Gaining insight.

So… who is really looking at whom?

About the Artist

Playing with the ordinary

Louise Hessel is known as a visual artist, recognised for the unconventional combinations of materials she uses in her work. These unexpected pairings create a distinctive atmosphere that encourages contemplation.

Hessel draws inspiration and fascination from everyday materials and objects. By experimenting with the character and mood of these elements, she seeks new arrangements and unexpected connections. The artist is always searching for the visual strength and harmony within objects and compositions. Her creations evoke a sense of familiarity in an often unfamiliar world.

The objects and materials Hessel uses are removed from their usual context, inviting us as viewers to see them from a different perspective. They lose their original function but retain their atmosphere and character. In doing so, these elements are regrouped into new visual compositions.
